“Birthday BBQ raided by Riot Police on Facebook intelligence”
Now, we all know that “police intelligence” is the archetypal oxymoron. But this must be the absolute first and only time that the words “Facebook” and “intelligence” have been placed in the same sentence.
Best wishes, G.
Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
Best wishes, G.
If you don’t agree with the reasons why troops are out there risking their lives because it’s their job and their superiors told them to then take it up with the superiors, not the troops.
Regardless of whether they SHOULD be there or not, the troops ARE there facing death all the time. Are people suggesting that if troops don’t agree with it then they should quit? If people quit a job every time they didn’t agree/want to follow an order or instruction then probably about 99% of people would be out of work. These people have come back HOME. They DESERVE respect because they are just doing their job, and it’s a bloody hard one at that. Why can’t people seperate the issues surrounding a war, with attitudes towards the people caught up in them, including the troops?
Because these soldiers were not drafted, they signed a contract with the Army to go to far flung places, meet interesting new people and kill them. Being soldier for the military machine is not just another Job option. You essentially sign your life away to advance the world politics of the Corporatocracy with violence. If a soldier tells his boss to poke his job up his arse, he’s thrown in jail! As for your ‘they’re just doing their job’ bullshit, I think that’s what most of the Nazis said at Nuremberg. As for your views on selling your labour, it has been a long time since I’ve come across such a broken wage slave peasant. They don’t deserve any respect, because if they did not sign-up, their ’superiors’ would have no cannon fodder to guard the opium and the oil!
I kinda see both sides to this. On the one hand, all our troops are volunteers and therefore they should be aware what the job really means before signing on the dotted line.
Trouble is, often when they join up I think they don’t realise what they are doing. Moreover, those involved with recruiting, as ever, are happy to keep said recruits in blissful ignorance, at least until they take the proverbial Queen’s shilling. You musn’t forget we are talking about some very young, niaive people here. Moreover we are talking about experienced and highly persuasive recruitment officers c/w some slick advertising to back them up.
I’m showing my age here but many years ago during the Falklands conflict I recall a friend in the Navy lamenting that he only joined up because his dad was in the Navy and he thought that joining up would give him a trade. Basically he saw it as great way for get him away from the boredom of North Wales with a few quid in his pocket.
He was a fairly bright sort of chap, witty, well-read and observant. Nevertheless the night before he set sail he told me that when he joined up he genuinely never thought he would have to sail several thousand kilometres away and actually kill people.
He survived the war without physical injury. But he subsequently underwent several years of psychological treatment, Navy-style and was eventually discharged on medical grounds.
All rather sad really, IMHO.
Best wishes, G.
Let the bugger have his say: his party have enough of the vote to enjoy that right. Pray that he makes as much of a fool of himself as we think he will. Very nice blog, keep up the good work.
I can’t say I’m surprised the Tories are in favour. Remember whe the governemnt controlled water, gas, electricity? You have to be old enough to remember Thatcher.
We ARE ruining the planet there is no doubt. Over population will probably get us first.Food water land is all running out or being destroyed. The global warming thing is being discredited by the multinational chemical companies etc. There is so much misinformation from them. Why is it that climate change scientists are being targeted for negative treatmnet? Why is it only they are having there theories targeted? Why is it only they are having their computers hacked. They have nothing to gain but the multinational chemical companies have an awful lot to lose. Which side do you believe. We cannot pump billions of tons of chemicals into the atmosphere and think it will have not effect on climate. Man has evolved over thousands of years to thrive in the chemical mix of basically 75% nitrogen 21% oxygen with other gases making up the rest. We are bring about our own ends with pollution and over population these facts cannot be denied by all but the dumbest or super rich. I fear we have gone to far the human race is deservedly finished.Greed, irresponsibility, ignorance and illiteracy has got the better of us.
I agree that we are ruining the planet. My fear over the climategate hack was that rednecks in the UK and the USA would then completely dismiss the environmental movement and think its fine to drive an SUV and consume like there is no tomorrow. To say that it is just the multinational chemical companies that question the theory of man-made global warming is a little blinkered and dismissive. You also can not deny the fact that some politicians are definitely using the cloak of green politics to advance other political agendas. Which side am I on? The side of the environmental movement, the real activists, not the politicians bending over backwards to let their corporate friends trade carbon. Finally I would not worry yourself about overpopulation, I think you’ll find that is all in hand, academics like Obama’s science tsar John P. Holdren have a plan, a plan that Greenpeace subscribers and people who unquestionable watched and assimilated Al Gore’s ‘A inconvenient truth’ probably don’t know about.
How is it Pro War?
Not at all. Simply asking people to think of the young men and women who are at the sharp end of the conflict. It isn’t asking you to march to bring them home or indeed to march to send more out there. The war is happening and will continue. Whether you believe it is a just war or not is irrelevant, that’s not going to change anything, but go ahead of it makes you feel better about yourself.
It would be so nice to live in a world without the need for an army or the other forces.
Regretabley some people in this world want to take over airoplanes and fly them into buildings or explode bombs on the underground.
What would you do send the vicar from the local Bapstist Church round to have a chat with them.
We could get rid of the police while we are at it then send the local jobcentre round to give the thief a nice little job, to save them having to go out on a cold night to mug a pensioner.
Come on at least stand up and say how you would deal with a threat.
Well he was right about the rivers of blood, Shame he never had the date.
If you had bothered to make the best use of the education you were offered for free you might not have a ten year old car.
Sounds like you have a dose of sour grapes I have never been unemployed I have worked hard all my life, my house my car and my pension have all been paid, I lived on a council estate I went to a normal state run school. I wish I had done better at school because now I would have 2 new cars a house here and a villa in Spain.
If you want a decent life you have to work for it, If you only want a banger to sign on you can not really complain.
When Britain became a nuclear power, it ceased to be threatened by any other state, so there is no threat there. Unfortunately our army can not protect us from terrorism. What our army can do is invade suspected terrorists home countries and level the place to the ground to appease people who want blood.
I refer Jim to my previous Admin posts, that explain everything.
So in 2010 are we heading for a race war in the UK?
They have not taxed Ebay (yet).
We ARENT the cause of ‘Climate change’ we may speed up the process , ye, but we are not the CAUSE, climate change is natural.
Well you’re outspoken, I’ll give you that. However, in my opinion, you’re also wrong. Given that the vast majority of the rank-and-file soldiers of the British Army are the left-comprehensive-school-at-the-end-of-GCSE kind of person, it seems a little unfair to attribute any blame for their predicament to them. From the start they were poorly educated, and in bad company, so what chance had they? I wasn’t humbled by the fact that they chose work, but I was encouraged that they didn’t just give up because there were few jobs going, and I have a little respect for them for choosing the army. Everyone knows that it’s dangerous. It really comes down to why they chose it, regardless of what it really means. They chose the army because they really did believe that they were fighting for Queen and country, they thought that they were fulfilling a noble role, not lining the pockets of corporation owners and politicians. The only person who is to blame for them being there is not them themselves, since they probably weren’t made aware of the pointlessness of this war before they went, but the propaganda machines that told them that they were fighting the ‘good fight’, that they were doing everyone a great service. That said, I do detest these bullshit emotional blackmail chain e-mails, and I certainly don’t pass them on. You missed, or left out, one point too that I was surprised at, “They are doing their bit…..please do yours by reading this and forwarding it to someone else:”. How exactly will that help them? Oh, that’s right, it won’t, they’ll never know about it, and it wouldn’t help even if they did, they’d just feel somewhat patronised by being reduced to a cliche like this most likely.
“PROTEIN IN DECENT AMOUNTS IS neccessary to a feeling of well being & the maintenance of muscle mass throughout the day. Though some veggie matieriel( forgive my dislexia)is okay for protien-beans & lentils,etc.- you have to have it or you’ll end up a ‘musselman’.”
Totally true.
Jus Mate you won’t end up a Muslim if you don’t eat protein. I don’t know who told you such a stupid lie but I will reassure you it is not true because you can’t choose whether you’re Muslim or not actually.
Thanks for wasting my time A4E,i am now back to square one.
The instructer of the company who you put me on that job with, said your request to say i was working 13 weeks is not on, and you have a nerve to even ask, and as a result will not be using A4E in the future for employees.
Thanks for nothing.
“thick, white, ill-educated casual supporters”
Would that be like the same supporters of labour, who think there hands are clean of blood.
